Oscar definitely has a mind of his own as is clearly evidenced by the fact that neither Persepolis, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes, nor 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, which won the prestigious Palme d'Or at Cannes, was among the nine movies that received nominations for consideration as the Best Foreign Film of 2007.

Persepolis, which also won New York Film Critics and Los Angeles Film Critics awards as well as kudos from the National Board of Review, is still in the running for a nomination in the 'Best Animated Feature' category (see 'France Enters 'Persepolis' for Oscar').  Twelve animated features have been submitted for consideration including the anime feature Tekkonkinkreet, and the Neil Gaiman-scripted Beowulf, along with Alvin and the Chipmunks, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie, Bee Movie, Meet the Robinsons,  Persepolis, Ratatouille, Shrek the Third, The Simpsons Movie, Surf's Up, and TMNT.
