Channing Tatum has landed the key role of Duke, the field commander of the G.I. Joe team, while Dennis Quaid and Arnold Vosloo have also joined director Stephen Sommer's cast. Tatum, who also recently landed the role of Pretty Boy Floyd in Michael Mann's Public Enemies, will portray Duke Hauser, the lead soldier on the Joe Team, while Quaid will play General Hawk, the grizzled team leader and Arnold Vosloo has been cast as the villainous Zartan. Vosloo, Tatum and Quaid join a cast that includes Marlan Wayans, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Said Taghmaoui.
Sommers plans to start shooting G.I. Joe in Los Angeles next month, and Paramount has already set a debut date of August 7th, 2009 for the film, which the studio hopes will be a summer blockbuster on the scale of Transformers, which was also based on a Hasbro toy property and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
