Sci Fi Channel has ordered 13 episodes of Sanctuary, a series new to TV that exists online as eight Webisodes available for download to own.  Sanctuary was created by Damian Kindler, directed and co-written by Martin Wood, and stars Amanda Tapping (all of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis). 

The production of the first eight high definition Webisodes (of about 15 minutes each) cost CDN$4.5 million and achieved a production quality that looks more expensive by using green screen backgrounds similar to the how they were used in 300 and Sin City.  Around one thousand green screen shots were created for those first eight Webisodes. 

Sanctuary was recorded straight to hard drive; no tape was used in the recording of this series. 

Stage 3 Media, which owns the show, is promising more Web content to supplement what will be seen on television.  There's also talk of a comic on the show's site.
