According to Variety Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18th, four days before the film will open worldwide.  Variety is reporting that Harrison Ford, Shia LeBeouf and Cate Blanchett have all be told to be ready to make the trip to the Riviera in mid-May, though the actual announcement will not be made until the Cannes Festival officially publishes its schedule in April.

The latest Indiana Jones film will likely be shown 'out of competition.'   It will mark Spielberg's first return to Cannes since 1982 when he brought E.T. to the festival. While a Cannes debut won't mean that much to American audiences (which are already stoked to see the film anyway), it should help swell the international box office.
