An ICv2 Release.  ICv2 has announced details of the two panels on graphic novels it will be presenting at Graphic Novel Day at Book Expo America this weekend (see “Graphic Novel Day at the BEA”). 

 

At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, ICv2 will present a panel based on the theme of its magazine, the ICv2 Guide.  “What's Hot, What's Good, What's Next in Graphic Novels” will take a look at the bestselling graphic novel properties in all the top graphic novel categories, which high quality books that can mean long-term popularity, and what graphic novels are on the horizon that look like the best bets.  ICv2 publisher Milton Griepp will moderate a panel of experts from ICv2, and from the bookstore, comic store, and library worlds:

  • Jessica Stockton Bagnulo -- Graphic Novel Buyer, McNally Robinson Booksellers
  • Tom Flinn -- VP Content, ICv2
  • Atom! Freeman -- Owner, New World Comics & past Eisner Awards judge
  • Nick Smith -- Librarian Technician, Pasadena Public Library, and reviewer.

 

At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, ICv2 will present a panel on “Sex in Graphic Novels,” to examine the special issues of rating, labeling, and shelving graphic novels with content for teens and adults.  Panelists are drawn form the comic store, bookstore, wholesale, library, and publishing tiers:

  • Kasia Piekarz -- Marketing and Merchandising Mgr. (and ratings maven), Tokyopop
  • John Shableski -- Sales Mgr., Diamond Book Dist.

  • Chris Staros -- Publisher, Top Shelf Comics; President, Comic Book Legal Defense Fund

 

ICv2 joins a host of other graphic novel panels on Saturday, which kicks off with Diamond’s Graphic Novel Authors Breakfast, with Jeff Smith, Jeph Loeb, Mike Mignola, and Art Spiegelman.
