Graphic novels were purchased by 8% of online book buyers, according to an online survey conducted by Zogby International for Random House and presented at Book Expo America last week.  That number is somewhat below the 11.5% percentage of the over-all book business accounted for by graphic novels  (see “First Ever BEA Graphic Novel Breakfasat”).

Compared to “genre” fiction, that 8% number tied graphic novels with “true crime,” and put them ahead of horror (6%) in terms of the percentage of online buyers buying graphic novels.

Graphic novels came in behind several other “genre” categories, including “humor“ (18%), science fiction/fantasy (19%), and mystery/thriller (26%).
