FUNimation Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the 26-episode Heroic Age anime series that was directed by Toshimasa Suzuki and produced by Xebec. Based on an original story by Tow Ubukata (Le Chevalier D’Eon), Heroic Age is a mecha/science fiction series, which is filled with echoes of Greek mythology and loosely-based on the Twelve Labors of Hercules. The Heroic Age anime series aired on Japanese TV in 2007 and FUNimation plans to release it on DVD here in the States starting in 2009.
In the Heroic Age anime, the Iron Tribe (humanity) struggles against the more advanced Silver Tribe, which has had control of space since the disappearance of the Golden Tribe. A seinen manga adaptation of the Heroic Age series by Kugeko Warabino appeared in Kodansha’s Magazine Z last year and so far one tankoubon collection has been published in Japan (no U.S. publisher has yet announced the acquisition of this property).
