The 'Books In Brief' section of the influential N.Y. Times Book Review has spotlighted another comic industry title.  This week the featured book is Brian M. Kane's profusely illustrated Hal Foster: Prince of Illustrators, Father of the Adventure Strip from Vanguard Productions.  Although reviewer Steven Heller pays a little too much attention to Prince Val's signature haircut (the first 'moptop'), he does manage to praise Foster's 'elegantly expressive line.'

 

The 207-page Hal Foster book is typical of the entire series of profusely illustrated Vanguard Productions artist monographs that includes books on Wally Wood, Carmine Infantino, Jeffrey Jones, and Steranko.
