The Right Stuf International and Nozumi Entertainment have announced the acquisition of the 26-episode Gakuen Alice and will release it in a subtitled-only format in a single box set sometime in 2009.  Directed by Takehiro Omori and based on the shojo manga by Tachibana Higuchi, the Gakuen Alice anime series aired on Japanese TV from October of 2004 to May of 2005.  The ongoing Gakuen Alice manga has reached 19 volumes in Japan.  Tokyopop, which is publishing Gakuen Alice here in North America, will release Volume 4 in September.

Gakuen Alice is the story of Mikan Sukara, a ten-year-old girl whose best friend is sent to a special private school (Gakuen Alice).  When she follows her friend to the new school, Mikan discovers that everyone at the school has a special “power,” and that she too has a superpower that qualifies her to attend Gakuen Alice.

In addition to Gakuen Alice TRSI is also releasing the 1980 Toward the Terra anime movie on DVD in a subtitled-only version in December.  Produced by Toei Animation and based on the groundbreaking shojo science fiction manga by Keiko Takemiya (published here as To Terra by Vertical), the Toward the Terra movie has been previously released on both VHS tape and laserdisc by the Right Stuf.  Last year Toward the Terra was adapted into a 24-episode anime series, which is being released here in the U.S. by Bandai Entertainment (Volume #2 is due out in July).
