The Hollywood trades are reporting that executives from Warner Bros. and DC are engaged in a series of meetings to develop a new strategy for films based on DC Comics characters.  The goal, according to the reports, is to develop an over-all strategy rather than the current muddle, which often loses films in development hell.

Warner is the only studio that’s been making DC movies, and isn’t getting movies featuring its characters into the pipeline as fast as Marvel, which doesn’t have anything like the moviemaking resources possessed by Warners.  Although The Dark Knight is expected to do well, Marvel got two movies out this year, and is moving quickly to develop multiple franchises out of second tier characters.

Warner says only that “we’re constantly looking at how best to exploit the DC Comics characters and properties,” but a new plan is expected to emerge from the meetings.
