Avi Arad’s Seaside Entertainment is teaming with Warner Bros. and videogame maker Capcom to create a big screen adaptation of Capcom’s Lost Planet videogame, according to Variety.  David Hayter, who wrote the screenplay for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and collaborated with Avi Arad on numerous projects including X-Men and X-Men 2, is adapting the science fiction videogame, which is set on an ice-bound planet that may contain an energy source vital to the survival of mankind.

The Lost Planet game debuted in Japan in 2006 and has now sold over 2 million units worldwide.  Capcom, which helped to finance the new Street Fighter film that opens next February (see “Street Fighter Opens February 13th”), is expected to contribute to the production costs of the Lost Planet movie as well.
