Catalyst Game Labs, the most recent publisher of the Shadowrun RPG and Classic BattleTech game, has announced a deal with developer WildFire LLC for world Englilsh language publishing rights to WildFire’s CthulhuTech RPG. Catalyst will print, advertise, and sell the new version of the game.
Combining Lovecraftian horror with an anime-style, giant-mecha near-future setting, the first CthulhuTech books were published in 2007 by WildFire through Mongoose Publishing (see “CthulhuTech Hardcover”). The new Core Rulebook will be full color throughout (the Mongoose version was black and white) and will have some layout changes to reflect the higher quality of color printing, but the text will be identical to the previously published versions.
The CthulhuTech Core Rulebook and Vade Mecum Core Rules Expansion will be sold in limited quantities at Gen Con Indy, with a full release through hobby distribution in October. Catalyst is considering its options for Dark Passions (which was released by Mongoose) including a new color edition, but has not scheduled one at this time. Future books will be published about once every four months.
In the announcement, Catalyst revealed that it has 30,000 copies of Shadowrun 4th Edition in print, a great performance in a generally weak RPG market.
