Jay Bardyla of Happy Harbor Comics in Edmonton, Alberta saw Steve Bennett’s recent column on Teen Titans #62 (see “Confessions of a Comic Book Guy--Wither Wonderdog?”) and says the pointless deaths are an example of “sloppy storytelling:”

Reading Steve Bennett’s column on the recent demise on the old Super Friends supporting characters made me realize that, while a fan of the old characters and the current series, I didn’t care that they died.  Frankly, their appearance in the title was so minimal and brief, I can’t for a moment believe that any new reader to the series who was unfamiliar with the history those three had, didn’t know or care about the characters either.  Their part in the series had been inconsequential to date.  So what purpose did their deaths serve?  None, which makes for sloppy storytelling.

Aren’t there supposed to be editors on books who help determine if a story idea is good or not?
