Universal Studios has announced that Wanted, which earned a surprising $134.3 million at the domestic box office (slightly more than The Incredible Hulk), will be released on DVD on December 2nd. Adapted from the graphic novel by Mark Millar, Wanted was directed by Timur Bekmambetov, and starred Angelina Jolie, James MacAvoy and Morgan Freeman. The movie will be available in six DVD configurations including single disc (both widescreen and fullscreen $29.98), a 2-Disc Special Edition ($34.98) and the Blu-ray version ($39.98), as well as Collector’s Edition Set ($64.98) and a Blu-ray’s Collector’s Edition Set ($69.98).
The Collector’s Editions include special collectible packaging that is pierced by a bullet, plus a photo book of assassins, collectible postcards, and an acrylic frame motion 3-D cel. The 2-Disc Special Edition, the regular Blu-ray and the two Collector’s Editions all have a ton of bonus features including extended scenes, plus featurettes on a number of topics including “The Origins of Wanted: Bringing the Graphic Novel to Life (a discussion involving Mark Millar, Bekmambetov and the screenwriters), “Special Effects: The Art of the Impossible,” “Through the Eyes of Visionary Director Timur Bekmambetov,” “Stunts on the L Train,” and “Cast and Characters (behind the scenes with the film’s stellar cast). A “Motion Comics” version of Wanted, which brings the graphic novel to life with narration and sound effects, is also included on all the four enhanced editions.
The Blu-ray versions have a couple of exclusive features including an alternate opening, U-Control capability that permits the viewer to watch the movie side-by-side with the motion comic, a scene-explorer function that permits exploration of the onscreen action from up to three different perspectives, and picture-in-picture capability permitting access of cast interviews and behind-the-scenes sequences while screening the movie. In addition the Blu-ray comes with BD-Live capability for viewers who can connect their players to the Internet.
