Gut Bustin’ Games’ small line of redneck-themed board games is starting to get some attention in the hobby, with sales on the company’s first release, Redneck Life, now at over 25,000 since its release about two years ago, according to Redneck “Grand Poo-Bah” Lisa Steenson.  The game was joined by an expansion, Bustin’ a Gut, in 2007.  Trailer Park Wars was released in June.

Game stores have been the biggest channel for the games, according to Steenson, with gift stores and a variety of less conventional venues accounting for the rest.  Among those less conventional venues are feed and farm stores, Western wear and tack stores, RV centers, hardware stores, and novelty shops.

Asked about the target customer for her games, Steenson argued for inclusiveness.  “Gosh, as a woman game designer, I try to make the games attractive for women to play, but certainly not ‘girly’ games,” she said.  “They have the rough and tumble element for men, edgy enough for teens, and a lot of nostalgia for seniors.  I’d hafe to say that they are for everyone except for the young’ens!”

Gut Bustin’ may produce an expansion for Trailer Park Wars as it did for Redneck Life, depending on sales of the core game.

Steenson said she’s also creating a game with Jeff Bellenger of Killer Bunnies.
