Bill Bodden, who writes on games, gaming, and does reviews for ICv2, saw comments from retailer Jay Adan about his World of Warcraft Miniatures reviews (see “Jay Adan of Greenfield Games on 'WoW Review'”) and wanted to respond:
I had to respond to Jay Adan's critique of my World of Warcraft Minaitures review. His primary complaint seems to be that the review was too superficial. To answer this it's important to note that reviewers for games are given roughly 300 words to work with for the ICv2 Guide magazine, which is the venue for which this review was originally written. (For reference, that's three long paragraphs. Posting reviews to the Website is a new feature, so it may take some time to iron out the details.)
Second, I've been writing the same type of review for ICv2 publications for over a year now, and this is the first complaint I've heard of. Frankly, I don't have the space for a more detailed analysis of any game, so naturally the reviews will be superficial. But if my description of how the game works, and of the features I liked and didn't piques a reader's curiosity and they seek out more information, go to their favorite distributor -- or better still, go to their favorite local game store to ask about it or look at a copy -- then I have done my job.
It's great that Mr. Adan is passionate about the World of Warcraft Miniatures game; if only more people in our industry had such passion.
