Andy Battaglia, owner of Comics Etc. in Rochester, New York, read the comments made by Diamond Comic Distributors Vice President Sales and Marketing Roger Fletcher (see “Comic Stores “Holding Up Really Well’”) and had this to say:

In reference to Roger Fletcher's analysis of the comic book market, it really is simply trying to put lipstick on a pig.  Considering the price increases and the absurd number of titles on the market, especially from Marvel, one can only conclude that the comic market is in rough shape.  The price increases and glut of books mask the true condition of the comic market and retailers will either adjust or fail.  The publishers seem blind to this as they pump out far more titles than the public can afford or even have the energy to care about, with Marvel being by far the biggest offender.  Apparently losing money on a multitude of titles means nothing to a publisher that looks at each property as a potential movie.
