Discover Magazine has announced that starting with its February 2009 issue the popular science and technology magazine (6.7 million readers) will feature a continuing series of History of Science comic strips created by Peter Bagge (Hate). Bagge’s comic will feature key characters and events from scientific history, all of which will be presented in Bagge’s typically entertaining and irreverent style.
Though it’s often dismissed by so-called intellectuals, the comics medium is surprisingly nimble when it comies to explicating complex scientific ideas—witness an upcoming volume on DNA and genetics (The Stuff of Life: A Graphic Guide to Genetics & DNA) written by Mark Schultz due out on the 23rd of this month, or any of the great publications such as Two-Fisted Science from science comics specialists G.T. Labs.
