In an interview with MTV Splash Page, Brian Michael Bendis announced that “Powers is in active development as a pilot at FX.” Powers, which Bendis created with Michael Avon Oeming, is a fascinating meld of the superhero and crime genres. Set in a world where super-powered individuals are fairly common, Powers uses the methods of a police procedural to examine its alternate world by following the adventures of two detectives charged with investigating crimes involving people with “powers.” Originally released by Image from 2000-2004, Powers has been published by Marvel under its Icon imprint since 2004.
Sony optioned Powers for a theatrical feature back in 2001, but Bendis was never satisfied with the screen treatments the studio provided. In contrast to his previous experience with Sony, Bendis told MTV he was very pleased with the way in which the project is progressing at FX, the network that has produced some excellent series such as The Shield: “They’re a very smart network,” added Bendis. “It seems like the right place for it to be.”
