April 15th is not just tax day, it’s the debut date for Fables #83, the first book in The Great Fables Crossover, a major Vertigo comic book event written by Fables creator Bill Willingham and Matt Sturges that will extend across 3 titles (Fables, Jack of Fables, and The Literals) for the months of April, May and June encompassing nine issues in all.  Unlike many comic book mega-events, The Great Fables Crossover is one coherent story in which the characters actually do leave their own books (Jack returns to the original Fables comic) for unexpected adventures in other titles—adventures that will have consequences for the Fables universe.

Readership for the Fables saga has been growing quickly in the bookstore market, where this unique fantasy-verse is quickly attaining the kind of popularity it has enjoyed in the direct market for quite some time—and readers of The Great Fables Crossover will be rewarded by the answers to some key questions.  Among the revelations in the crossover event are: (1) the identity of Jack’s father; (2) the fate of Jack’s illegitimate son; (3) the true nature and ultimate fate of The Literals; (4) the secret behind the egg that’s been sitting on Snow White’s (and then Beauty’s) desk since the first issue of Fables; and (5) how low Red Rose can fall before she hits bottom.
