Fans rushing to order their copy of the Limited Edition Dollhouse: Season One managed to crash the foxstore.com servers on Monday when the online store began accepting preorders.  The site was soon up and running again, though some customers were still receiving error messages on Tuesday.  The ordering page now prominently displays a phone number for anyone experiencing ordering problems.

But if the numbers on the actual ordering page, which indicate that there are over 2,000 of both the DVD and Blu-ray left, are correct, then there are still plenty of copies available, and the real question is the capacity of the foxstore.com Website to handle much volume at all.   Or has “crashing the site” become a marketing ploy, the online equivalent of the comic book “sellout”?

The Limited Edition Dollhouse: Season One sets feature special blue-embossed packaging and come with a letter from series creator Joss Whedon.  Only 2,500 of the individually-numbered SDCC 4-disc DVD set ($49.98) and an equal number of the 3-disc Blu-ray set ($69.99) have been created.  Sets ordered online must be picked up at Comic-Con starting on Wednesday July 22nd (see “Limited Edition Dollhouse Discs at SDCC”).  Regular versions of the Dollhouse: Season One sets go on sale on July 28th.
