Visceral Games, a studio of video game giant Electronic Arts, has announced a collaboration with DC Comics/Wildstorm to develop a comic book mini-series based on Dante’s Inferno, the EA video game adaptation of Part I of Dante’s The Divine Comedy.  An issue #0 of the series, which is being written by Christos Gage (X-Men, Spider-Man) and features art by Diego Latorre (The Incredible Hulk) will be given away at the San Diego Comic-Con.  The first issue of the comic book mini-series will be released in December.

The Dante’s Inferno video game, which is set in the medieval author’s nine circles of hell, is one of 2010’s most highly anticipated action/adventure games.  In addition to the game itself and the comic book series, Starz/Film Roman is producing a feature-length Dante’s Inferno animated anthology like the Animatrix with a number of different episodes produced by different Japanese and Korean animation studios.  Yasuomi Umetsu (Kite, Girl’s High, Mezzo) is directing one of the segments, which will feature character designs by Tsukasa Kotobuki (Battle Arena Toshinden).

EA, DC/Wildstorm, and Starz are presenting a panel on their multi-media efforts based on Dante’s epic poem at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
