The Disney Book Group has announced the April 2010 publication of an original Prince of Persia graphic novel written by Jordan Mechner, who created the original Prince of Persia game.  Todd McFarlane (Spawn) is providing the cover for the 128-page full color book that will be available in both paperback ($9.99) and hardcover edition ($19.99).  Artists Bernard Chang (Wonder Woman, Superman Plus), Tommy Lee Edwards (Marvel 1985), and Cameron Stewart (Catwoman, The Other Side) are participating in the project.  They will appear, along with MacFarlane and Mechner at a “Prince of Persia” panel on Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con.

The Disney Prince of Persia graphic novel is an anthology of six original stories by Mechner designed to function as a sort of prequel to the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time feature film starring Jake Gyllenhaal that is being produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer films, and will be released on May 28th, 2010.

Jordan Mechner is also collaborating with artists LeUyen Pham and Alex Puvilland on a Prince of Persia trilogy that is being published by First Second Books.  The initial volume in this series was published in September of 2008 (see “Review of Prince of Persia”).
