Variety is reporting that Morgan Freeman is in talks with Summit Entertainment to star opposite Bruce Willis in an adaptation of Warren Ellis’ Red, a three-issue mini-series thriller about a former CIA Black Ops agent living who is retired and living in obscurity until a professional assassin attempts to kill him.

Published by DC/Wildstorm in 2003 and 2004, Red was optioned by Summit Entertainment (Twilight) last June (see “Summit Sees Red”), a deal that was notable because it was the first time that a DC Comics property was optioned outside of the Warner Bros. family of companies.

According to Variety, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing along with DC’s Gregory Noveck.  Brothers Erich and Jon Heuber (Whiteout) are writing the screenplay.
