One of the many rumors emanating from Disney’s pending acquisition of Marvel came from Entertainment Weekly, which claimed that “Pixar already has their eyes on Ant-Man.”  Not so fast.  Edgar Wright who just wrapped principal photography on Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, told the CHUD Website, “I’m still attached to Ant-Man and indeed am still working on a second draft with Joe Cornish.  That had to take a back seat while I worked on Scott Pilgrim, but am keen to get back into it once I get into post (production).”

Though Wright noted that he “loved Pixar’s work more than anyone and indeed would love to collaborate with them,” he maintains that “the news that Pixar is involved is not wholly accurate and a little premature to comment on.”  Wright indicated that his “spin on Ant-Man is very different than a straight superhero origin—and very much live action.”

While there is some ambiguity in his remarks, one thing that is clear from Wright’s comments to CHUD is that he has a lot invested in the Ant-Man project, which he characterized as “something I have been working on for over five years off and on.”  Wright appears determined to make Ant-Man something different, “a genre film within the superhero genre.”

But the fact that he wants to make Ant-Man a live-action film doesn’t necessarily preclude Pixar’s involvement.  Pixar is currently prepping a live-action adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars.  It’s not clear whether or not there is anything behind EW’s un-sourced comment, but Ant-Man would appear to be the type of project that would potentially appeal to Pixar.
