Brad Anderson, who directed Session 9 and The Machinist, has signed on to helm an adaptation of Robert Tinnell and Todd Livingston’s 2005 graphic novel, The Living and the Dead.  A fascinating continuation of the Frankenstein mythos, The Living and the Dead may be Tinnell and Livingston’s finest work, though because it was published by the now defunct Speakeasy Comics, it is not nearly as well known as their efforts for Image Comics, The Black Forest and The Wicked West.

The Baron Frankenstein-like protagonist of The Living and the Dead is working as a village doctor when his past catches up with him and he is forced to resume his experiments with disastrous results that jeopardize his bucolic existence in this altogether superior Gothic horror/thriller.

According to Mania.com, Anderson is currently working on Vanishing on 7th Street with Hayden Christensen.  Anderson’s skillful direction of the underrated 2001 horror film Session 9 would certainly indicate that he is an ideal choice to direct The Living and the Dead, which has been optioned by Solipsist Films.
