The Joe Kubert art that will be auctioned by Heritage Auctions beginning this week was the subject of a major piece, with large color and b/w illustrations, in Tuesday’s New York Times, featured on the front page of the Arts section in the national edition.  The article was as much a retrospective on Kubert’s career as it was about the auctions, but it did note both the relatively low reserve prices ($300 to $3250) and the higher prices that work by Kubert and other artists have drawn in the past.  The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art also came in for its share of the limelight, with its history as a family operation described.   

Eighteen pieces, the first group of the large collection consigned to Heritage by Kubert, will be auctioned this Friday.  It will be interesting to see whether the prices respond to the national publicity and Kubert's august position as one of the giants of the comics industry.
