The merchandise associated with Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel runs a wide gamut, from items for the youngest kids to those for young adult hipsters.  The first Funko Alvin and the Chipmunks Bobblehead may be the best we’ve seen on the cool end of the spectrum; it’s already sold out at some mail order retailers.

Jakks has the toy license for a full line of mass market toys; Ty will produce collectible plush beanie babies; and Build-a-Bear has stuffable and pre-stuffed plush chipmunks.  Majesco will release the Nintendo DS and Wii videogames on December 1st.

Rhino will release the soundtrack featuring the Chipmunks and new girl group The Chipettes on December 1st.   But for those who seek to emulate that unmistakable chipmunk sound, there are the Emerson karaoke products.

HarperCollins has storybooks, Bendon Publishing has color/activity and educational books, and Aquarius has posters, boxed puzzles and wall calendars.

There are also, of course, numerous clothing licenses.

The first movie grossed over $360 million worldwide, after a very strong $45 million opening weekend (see “Legend Revives Box Office”).   It opens on December 23rd, and may once again be the choice of families looking for lighter fare than Avatar and Sherlock Holmes, the two big late-December releases (see “Best in Shows 2009, Part II”).
