In March Random House will publish Backing Into Forward, an illustrated memoir by cartoonist Jules Feiffer who vividly recalls his unhappy childhood in the Bronx, his apprenticeship at Will Eisner’s cartoon studio, and his transformation, courtesy of the U.S. Army, from a smart-assed kid into an enraged satirist.

The 464-page hardcover autobiography features illustrations by Feiffer whose Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoon strip ran in the Village Voice for 42 years.  Feiffer also wrote the Obie-winning play Little Murders and the screenplay for Mike Nichols’ Carnal Knowledge.
