Ilan Strasser of Fat Moose Comics and Games in Whippany, New Jersey writes in to relate the tale of an encounter with one of his subscription hold customer's unusual protest.

It's a classic case of cutting your nose to spite your face.  A long-time customer walked in today and informed me she "had to" cancel her reserve box.  Why?  Because Disney had bought Marvel and she abhors the thought of anything Disney.  I told her that no one at Marvel or Disney would ever know about her act of protest (or care).  I told her it seemed unwise to no longer read the comics she really likes to prove a point to... no one.  I told her the bean counters really weren't all that worried about her $40 a month, though I certainly was.  By the end of her visit, she seemed to have backed off a little and said she will at least consider continuing her reserve with me.

Now, I have lost 20% of my reserves since January 2009.  It seems that out of all the stores in my area, I have taken the biggest hit by far.  All the usual reasons have been given by those cancelling, but dislike of the Disney brand was one reason I never expected to hear.  I guess if I survive a few more years, I can always look back at 2009 and say that was the years that things went GOOFY for Fat Moose Comics and Games.
