At the 61st annual Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg, the Italian game publisher NG International has unveiled the second of its Nexus Designer Series of sophisticated board games. Aztlan is the new game from Leo Colovini, creator of such games as Inkognito, Carolus Magnus, Cartagena, and Carcassone: The Discovery.
Aztlan is a new European-style board game that should appeal to beginners and experienced players alike with its combination of bluffing, challenging mechanics, and high quality components. Set in the mythical Central American kingdom of Aztlan, players take on the roles of rival god-kings of the Nahuatl people engaged in a struggle to rule the mightiest kingdom and create the highest civilization. The game develops during five different epochs with each player striving to create the mightiest empire using a highly interactive mechanic based on majorities and card playing.
The first game in the Nexus Designer Series, Ad Astra by Bruno Faidutti and Serge Laget, was released in 2009 and is available in the U.S. from Fantasy Flight Games.
