The Brightest Day event will have a number of consequences for the DC Universe. DC Comics has just announced that it is launching a new Green Lantern title, Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors, which will “be starting in a few short months.” Peter Tomasi, who is currently writing Green Lantern Corps, will be writing the new Emerald Warriors title, which will star everyone’s favorite ring-wielding hothead, Guy Gardner, and also feature regular appearances from Kilowog. Fernando Passarin, who has worked on a number of titles from Justice Society of America to The Outsiders, will bring his kinetic modern style to the interior art in Emerald Warriors.
Green Lantern Corps will continue with Tony Bedard (R.E.B.E.L.S) taking over writing chores with #48 while Ardian Syaf (Blackest Night: Batman, Phantom Stranger) will handle the interior art. According to DC’s The Source blog, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and Green Lantern Ganthet will be starring in future issues of Green Lantern Corps.
It should be interesting to see what happens in May when Brightest Day goes head-to-head with Marvel’s Heroic Age. Will DC continue its ring promotion in May? Undeterred by criticism and Marvel’s swap offer (see “Big Two—It’s On”) DC is offering two ring promotions tied into to Brightest Day in April. Retailers who order 10 copies of The Flash #1 will be able to order The Flash Ring, while those who order 10 copies of Green Lantern #53 will be able to order the Green Lantern Rings. Note that the quantities required are low and the books involved are attractive enough that ordering 10 copies shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for most stores.
