In addition to Series 2 of its Domo Qee figures, to be released in blind boxes soon, Dark Horse is gauging interest in very limited larger Domo Qee figures among the urban vinyl crowd. The larger Qee figures are typically sold in editions of 250 to 350 per design at an $80 MSRP. Ten different designs have been prototyped and are being considered for production.
The first series of Domo Qee 2" figures were well received, with strong sales in bookstores, Urban Outfitters, and comic stores. A test in Target was less successful and will not be repeated.
Also in the works from Dark Horse is a bust of Michael C. Hall as the title character in the hit Showtime series Dexter. The front view is of the character in his day job, but his double role as a vigilante serial killer becomes visible when the bust is viewed from the back and the knife the character is holding becomes visible. The sculpt was not from a head scan, but used traditional sculpting techniques done digitally. The technique allows for better results on such elements as the weave of Dexter’s shirt, which would be tough to replicate using classic sculpting techniques. The Dexter Bust will retail for $69.99 or less, and ship in August.
