The CW network has renewed the DC Comics-based Smallville TV series for a 10th season.  While many thought that this year would be the last for Smallville, the series has been holding up very well in the highly competitive ratings battles on Friday nights. Smallville joins The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Supernatural, and 90210 scripted series that have all been renewed for next year by the CW.

Though the series originally focused on Clark Kent’s pre-Metropolis high school career, in recent years Smallville has shifted its focus as Clark begins his career on The Daily Planet and other DC heroes and villains have been introduced into the series, which has spawned a bi-monthly comic book series from DC and remains the longest-running, live-action superhero series in the history of American network television.
