Z-Man Games is planning a number of new boardgame titles for Summer, ranging from historical to sci-fi to fantasy. Martinique is releasing in May.  Perry Rhodan:  The Cosmic League and The Swarm are both planned for June (as is Road Kill Rally, see “Road Kill Rally”).  A July release is scheduled for Duel of Giants, Magical Athlete, and The Speicherstadt.  Finally, the new Pocket Battles:  Orcs vs. Elves will appear in August.

 

Martinique, designed by Emanuele Ornella, is a pirate-themed racing game for two players.  The players arrive at the island of Martinique seeking a lost pirate treasure, and must solve the legend if they hope to claim the booty for themselves.  Includes wooden pirate pieces and 113 tiles.  Stock number ZMG 7049.  Suggested retail price is $29.99.

 

Perry Rhodan:  The Cosmic League is a two-player game set in the classic German Science Fiction setting.  The players race to be the first to collect 70 “Megagalax,” the currency of the galaxy.  Includes 90 cards, six planets, two spaceship pawns, and scoring board.  Produced in cooperation with Kosmos.  Designed by Heinrich Glumpler.  Stock number ZMG 4062.  Suggested retail price $24.99.

 

The Swarm, based on the novels by Frank Schatzing, is designed by Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling.  Players establish research stations to investigate the mysterious “Swarm” and hunt the swarm queen.  For two to four players.  Includes 160 wooden playing pieces, tiles, cards, and board.  Produced in cooperation with Kosmos.  Stock number ZMG 7048.  Suggested retail price is $49.99.

 

Duel of Giants is the creation of Friedemann de Pedro, who also designed the earlier Z-Man title Duel in the Dark.  In his new game, the focus is on the great armor battles of the Eastern Front during World War II.  Designed for two-player and multi-player games, it will include eleven plastic models, a double-sided gameboard, landscape tiles, playing counters, cards, and wooden markers.  Stock number ZMG 7051.  Suggested retail price will be $65.00.

 

The manga-styled Magical Athlete pits teams of fantasy characters against each other in a team-based foot race.  Players draft a team of runners, then compete in a series of races.  The characters all have unique abilities to affect their races.  Designed by Takashi Ishida.  Stock number ZMG 4064.  Suggested retail price $24.99.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Speicherstadt (German for “city of warehouses”) will be produced in partnership with Eggertspiele in Germany.  This “Euro-style” game centers around the competition between warehouse managers in Hamburg at the dawn of the Twentieth Century.  Players bid on goods, contracts, and teams of firefighters in a unique simultaneous auction system.  Designed by Stefan Feld with art by Harald Lieske.

 

 

 

 

A new Pocket Battles game is scheduled for August.  Pocket Battles:  Orcs vs. Elves will be the second title in the series, and is fully compatible with the earlier Romans vs. Celts that was released last year.  Designed to play fast, the game uses tiles to represent combat units, and uses dice to resolve battles.  Suggested retail price will be $15.00.
