The Library of Congress will be including comics in its 9-11 exhibition, 'Witness and Response:  September 11 Acquisitions at the Library of Congress,' which will display a selection of the materials related to 9-11 collected by the Library since the attacks.  The exhibition opens September 7 and runs through October 26.

There will also be a series of free public programs called 'Summon the Heroes,' which will include 'September 11th Comic Book Artists and Illustrators,' a panel on comic creators' reactions to the attacks.  Announced panelists include Will Eisner, Paul Levitz, Jeff Mason, Peter Kuper, and Trina Robbins.

The comic industry reaction to 9-11 was an important event both because of the money it raised for 9-11 charities, and because of the attention it drew to the industry (see 'Top Comic Industry News Stories of 2001').  We wonder why Marvel, which raised over $1 million for 9-11 charities and produced a number of publications with storylines connected to the attacks, was not included in the panelists, but perhaps that's an oversight that will be corrected by the time the panel is held.
