Hasbro released a statement on Thursday stating that it is not having any discussions regarding the sale of the company.  It did confirm, however, that it had been approached by a private equity firm (reported by various news media as being Providence Equity Partners) and that its board had decided not to pursue the transaction.

Wizards of the Coast parent Hasbro has been on a roll recently, due to its success in leveraging movie franchises from its toy lines (Transformers, G.I. Joe, with many more to come), the promise of its new partnership in the Hub cable channel (see “The Hub’s First Year”), and the success of its core businesses.  WotC has been on a bit of a roll itself recently, primarily behind the success of its venerable Magic:  The Gathering franchise, which is once again the hottest thing in game stores.
