Ilan Strasser of Fat Moose Comics and Games in Whippany, New Jersey writes in to give his thoughts on Diamond's recent "Day Early Delivery" survey (see "Diamond Surveys Tuesday Comics").

I say "no thank you" to Tuesdays becoming New Comic Day again.  First of all, it's too close to the end of the weekend that just passed.  People are psychologically in the beginning of their work week and that doesn't always translate into happy, stress-free, and upbeat approaches to doing the things you like -- such as buying new comics.  Wednesday makes more sense to me because it's in the middle of the week and things generally start to look a little better.

Psychology aside, if you're going to change the day then change it to Thursday.  Sure, there's another dead weekday leading up to New Comic Day, but a good percentage of our customers get paid on Thursdays and Fridays.  Having New Comic Day later in the week means they will be in more of a mindset to spend additional cash in our stores while it's hot in their wallets.  Putting out the bucks for an extra statue or trade seems real hard looking into an almost empty wallet on Tuesday or Wednesday.  New Comic Day Thursday could mean an extra lot of sales for us.
