At the Twenty-Second annual Eisner Awards presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con Denis Kitchen announced that Will Eisner’s graphic novel, A Contract With God is going to be made into a live action film. Each chapter of Eisner’s seminal graphic novel about the immigrant tenement experience in depression-era New York City will be directed by a different independent director.  Darren Dean (Prince of Broadway) is writing the adaptation and producing.  Comics industry veteran Bob Schreck and Michael Ruggiero, former head of original programming at Starz, will serve as co-executive producers.

Alex Rivera (Sleep Dealer) will direct the first segment (“A Contract With God”).  Tze Chun (Children of Invention) will helm the second part (“The Street Singer”), while Barry Jenkins (Medicine for Melancholy) is directing “The Super,” and Sean Baker (MTV’s Warren the Ape) will direct “Cookalien,” the final segment.
