Sea Lion Books has announced the acquisition of comic book and graphic novel rights to P.C. Cast’s Goddess Summoning series, a clever recasting of the legend of the Beauty and the Beast.  Sea Lion will launch its Goddess Summoning adaptations with a comic book series based on Goddess of the Rose, the fourth book in the series.  The creative team adapting Goddess of the Rose will be announced later this month.  The first issue of the monthly Goddess of the Rose comic book will be published in early 2011.

P.C. Cast is the latest in a growing list of authors of bestselling novels to embrace the adaptation of their works into graphic novels.  Not only has Cast written the popular Goddess Summoning series, she also writes (with her daughter Kristin Cast) the even more popular House of Night series.  P.C. Cast has developed a worldwide following for her works with over 10 million copies of her books sold in 39 countries.

Unlike many of the authors of bestsellers who have come somewhat belatedly to world of comics, P.C. Cast has long had an appreciation of the medium, telling ICv2: “I grew up reading comics - old school Superman, Swamp Thing, Thor, Batman, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, etc...  Superheroes filled my childhood and shaped my imagination.  So it’s with great affection and pleasure that I enter the incredible playground of graphic novels.  Plus, its super cool to see my characters and world and magic come to life.”
