Tim Burton has announced the cast for his 3-D stop-motion animated Frankenweenie movie, which Disney is set to release on March 9th, 2012.  It is clear that Burton has chosen actors that he has worked with before and is comfortable with for this feature-length adaptation of his 1984 short film about a boy who reanimates his dog after the pooch is hit by a car and killed.  Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice) will voice the key role of Elsa, while Martin Landau (Ed Wood) will provide the voice for Mr. Rzykruski.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Martin Short (Mars Attacks!) and Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice and A Nightmare Before Christmas) will each provide the voices for five different characters, with Short handling Mr. Burgemeister, Bob, Nassor, Toshiaki, and Victor’s Dad, while O’Hara will do Weird Girl, Edgar, Victor’s Mom, and Gym Teacher.  Frankenweenie is the second film in a deal Burton signed with Disney back in 2007 (see “Tim Burton to Make ‘Alice in Wonderland’”).
