Emma Stone is on a list of actresses receiving serious consideration for one of two female lead roles in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot. According to Variety Stone has the inside track “given her relationship with the studio.” Stone, who starred in the teen comedy Easy A, which scored a solid $16 million opening last weekend, is close to signing for the big screen adaptation of 21 Jump Street at Sony, which would give her a leg up with the studio.
Sony has a history of giving prize roles to actors who have proved themselves in previous movies for the studio. Andrew Garfield, who won the competition to play Peter Parker, was in David Fincher’s The Social Network, as was Mara Rooney, who was given the title role in Sony’s remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Just as it did with the role of Peter Parker, it appears that Sony is setting up competitions for both female roles in the new Spider-Man film (see “Spidey’s Girl Still Shrouded in Mystery”). According to Variety, that along with Emma Stone, Lily Collins, Teresa Collins, and Mia Wasilkowska are also being strongly considered for one of the female leads in the Spider-Man movie—a role that Sony keeps repeating is not that of Mary Jane Watson.
