The 3D version of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace will be released in February 2012, according to Hollywood Reporter.  The most likely weekend is February 17th, according to the report, also the weekend set for the premiere of Sony’s Ghost Rider 2 (see “Ghost Rider Sequel Gets and Extra Dimension”).  Given that GR2 is being shot in 3D and the limited number of 3D screens available, it’s likely that if that weekend is chosen for Star Wars, Ghost Rider will have to move.

The choice of a February date was reportedly driven by a desire to have a clear field with limited blockbuster competition, as well as the opportunity to have licensed product programs associated with the release run throughout the year.
