Wolverine titles topped both the comics and graphic novel charts in September, albeit with numbers lower than normal for titles based on the most popular X-Men character.  Wolverine #1, at around 104,000 copies, was the only Marvel in the top five comic titles; Marvel had five of the top 10 and 16 of the top 25 titles in September.  Two Marvel #1s, Daken: Dark Wolverine and X-23, sold under 50,000 copies.

DC’s two Brightest Day issues, at #2 and #3, slipped below 90,000 for the first time with the 9th and 10th issues in the series.

Eighteen of the top 25 titles were down, vs. only three that were up.

Marvel and DC were pretty dominant in the top 100, with only five titles from other publishers cracking that portion of the chart: Dark Horse’s Buffy at #31, Image’s Walking Dead at #69, IDW’s True Blood at #81, and two from Dynamite, Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet and The Boys, at #99 and #100.  The Dynamite titles were the only ones from a non-premier publisher in the top 100.

Over on the graphic novel chart, Marvel’s Wolverine Old Man Logan was the top title, but with only around 6800 sold.  Scott Pilgrim and The Walking Dead accounted for 19 of the top 50 titles between them, with Scott Pilgrim Vol 1 at #6 and The Walking Dead Vol. 12 at #8 the top volumes in the series.

Speaking of media tie-ins, the new edition of Red, at #27, is likely to move up in October in the wake of a good box office performance.

Dark Horse’s Berserk Vol. 34 at #19 and VIZ Media’s Bleach Vol. 32 at #21 were the top two manga volumes on the chart.
