The parade of comic book based film continues unabated with the news in Variety that Universal Pictures has obtained the rights to the Black Bull (Wizard Entertainment) comic Beautiful Killer.  Producers Marc Abraham and Eric Newman have purchased Beautiful Killer as a vehicle for TV's late lamented Dark Angel, Jessica Alba (see 'Fox Axes Dark Angel').  Alba, who is currently starring in Universal's dramatic feature, Honey, intends to make Beautiful Killer her next project.  Variety quoted Alba raving about the project, 'This is very cool, dark material that at its core is about a girl who loses her family to mysterious killers, flees, and ultimately chooses to exact revenge.  The chance to shape a character and story from inception is a luxury for an actress.'

Alba's participation is key if Beautiful Killer is to make it through the arduous development process and actually become a film.  So far no writers or directors have been attached to the project so it is still a long ways from the screen.  Like the recently optioned comic, The Bad Guy, Beautiful Killer has managed to snare a movie deal with only one published issue (30 Days Of Night is another 1-issue and option property, see '30 Days Of Night Optioned').  Written by industry veteran Jimmy Palmiotti and illustrated by Phil Noto, Beautiful Killer is actually the second Black Bull comic to attract some serious Hollywood action---Black Bull's first comic release, Just A Pilgrim, is also in development (see 'Just a Pilgrim Movie Rights Acquired').
