Sea Lion Books has announced the acquisition of the rights to Aron Warner’s graphic novel series Pariah, and plans to publish the first volume in the 12-book series this summer. Warner is a veteran producer who won an Oscar for Shrek in 2001. In addition to the Shrek movies, he has worked on True Lies, Independence Day, Alien: Resurrection, The Ice Storm, Tank Girl, and Nightmare on Elm Street 6.

Phillip Gelatt will adapting Warner’s tale and Brett Weldele (The Surrogates, Silent Ghost) will provide the art. The first four books in the series introduce the main characters, teenagers who, thanks to an unintended side effect of in vitro gene manipulation to cure birth defects, have received such superior intelligence that it has made them outcasts.
