Australia-based Omnilab Media will distribute the big screen adaptation of Tiziano Sclavi’s Italian horror comic Dylan Dog in the U.S. Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, which stars Brandon (Superman Returns) Routh and was directed by Kevin Munroe, will be released in the U.S. on April 29th.
Variety reports that the cast of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night also includes Sam Huntington, Taye Diggs, and Anita Briem. Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who are currently working on a screenplay for a Doctor Strange movie for Marvel, penned the Dylan Dog script (see “From Superman to Dylan Dog”).
Dark Horse has released The Dylan Dog Case Files, a 680-page collection of Sclavi’s Dylan Dog comics that is a great introduction to one of Italy’s most popular comics with more than 56 million volumes sold. Dylan Dog is a former Scotland Yard detective who becomes supernatural investigator and is immersed in a series of complex narratives dealing with all manner of occult events. The highly cinematic Dylan Dog comics are “adult” in the best sense of the world. They reward close and careful reading and should appeal to those who enjoy Vertigo’s supernatural and fantasy titles.
