Iconic movie star and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his return to the world of entertainment next year as The Governator, the eponymous hero of a new comic book series and television cartoon created by the equally iconic Stan Lee. Of course Arnold is not forsaking the world of live-action movies, but he obviously isn’t above parlaying his enormous fame and name recognition into a successful side career in comics and cartoons.
Stan Lee talked about the project to Entertainment Weekly, which broke the story: “The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife (Maria Shriver). We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center (the “Arnold Cave”?) under his house in Brentwood.”
The Governator will have a slew of super vehicles for his use as well as a giant California Closet filled to the brim with “Super Suits” that will allow him to fly and perform other feats of strength and cunning. He will also have a team of sidekicks including Zeke “The Geek” Muckerberg, a 13-year-old computer maven who handles cybersecurity.
Of course The Governator will also require a stable of suitably villainous adversaries, which will be provided by a powerful crime syndicate, the somewhat improbably titled “Gangsters, Imposters, Racketeers, Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons (aka the G.I.R.L.I.E. Men).
