Kenneth Branagh’s Thor earned an estimated $83.6 million overseas as it opened in more than 7,250 theaters in 56 markets. Thor’s total was the best overseas tally of the year so far—besting its nearest competitor by some $25 million. In Australia where Thor was in its second weekend, the film experienced a modest 42% drop from its initial frame.
Thor opened at #1 in France, earning $8.1 million from 579 theaters, #1 in the U.K. and Ireland where it brought in an estimated $9 million from 500 locations, #1 in South Korea, where it earned $5.7 million, #1 in Italy where it brought in $5.5 million, and it also topped the box office in Spain, where it earned an estimated $5 million.
