Marvel has announced the creative team for Ultimate Comics: Ultimate, a new series that will follow in the wake of the Death of Spider-Man event that is currently taking place in the Ultimate Universe. Ultimate Comics: Ultimate, which will ship in August, will be part of the “Ultimate Comics Universe Reborn,” a major rebranding and rebuilding of the Ultimate Universe. The new Ultimate Universe comics will be tied closely together with all the Ultimate books playing off each other, much as the Death of Spider-Man titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates, and the weekly July series Ultimate Fallout are doing now in chronicling the demise of Spidey.
Writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic will be the team behind Ultimate Comics: Ultimates. The weekly Ultimate Fallout series in July will serve as a bridge to the new Ultimate titles. Marvel will release information on the creative teams for the other new Ultimate titles in the next few weeks.
The first Ultimate Comics: Ultimates story arc is entitled The Republic Is Burning. It will feature a number of familiar Ultimates characters such as Nick Fury, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Spider-Woman, but not Captain America whose absence is an integral part of the story
Originally conceived as an easy entry into the Marvel world where neither readers nor creators were constrained by decades of character continuity, the reboot of the Ultimate Universe is an attempt to get back that original “jumping-on-point” conception.
